EnviroMINE Supports Project Cornerstone's Education and Outreach Programs

On Friday, July 15, 2016, EnviroMINE, Inc. sponsored the Project Cornerstone Third Annual Golf Tournament fundraiser at Twin Oaks Golf Course in San Marcos, CA.

Project Cornerstone's programs introduce students to the construction aggregates industry by incorporating hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) into classroom activities and fieldtrips.  The organization works with local high school Career Technical Education (CTE) programs to ensure the aggregates industry is included in their curriculum.  They also provide informational presentations to local associations, community clubs, and planning groups.

Aggregates Industry Faces Workforce Shortage

Written by Alyssa Burley.

The construction aggregates industry is facing a shortage in its workforce. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the median age for someone working in the mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction industries was 41.5 in 2014. Younger generations are not entering the industry like they used to. As a result, the issue is becoming a common topic of concern throughout the industry.

Project Cornerstone Provides Outreach Program to Educate the Public about San Diego’s Construction Aggregates Industry

Project Cornerstone is a San Diego-based grassroots organization, dedicated to educating the public about the importance of local construction aggregate resources (i.e., sand, gravel and crushed stone). The organization is a result of San Diego-based construction aggregate producers identifying the need to educate the public that local supplies of aggregate are critical for cost effective infrastructure projects like roads, bridges, schools, hospitals and other public works projects. In addition, a sustainable permitted supply of construction aggregate is essential to maintain the quality-of-life the public has come to expect.
